sk9392 Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 Hi all! I have a Dell Latitude D830 and I installed Windows 98 SE on it. I used this thread for audio driver installation this post to edit the SYSTEM.INI and SYSTEM.CB files this driver for video nusb36e for USB drivers Additionally, I've installed Win98 Plus and DirectX 9.0c (this one probably won't be of use but I did it anyway). Now the issue is, sometimes I get Windows Runtime Error 202 and the laptop crashes. Earlier the laptop would crash when I tried to change the Plus! theme. Then I edited MinFileCache from 2048 to 16384, after which at least I could change the theme without crashing. BUT the laptop still crashes whenever I try to install something or even change the keyboard repeat rate in Control Panel -> Keyboard settings. The error is something like "Windows runtime error 202 at 0003:020E" (I'm not sure if the 0003:020E bit is the same everytime). Another important thing: sometimes (rarely) when I boot into Win98 SE, the USB driver and audio driver aren't functioning - in those cases the crashes don't happen while installing a program. So I guess the drivers are causing the issue? Could I please get some help on how I can fix this? Do I need to change some system configuration files? Or install something else? etc. Would appreciate any help.
awkduck Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 I'm guessing you have over 512Mb/1Gb of ram? Rloew is no longer with us, but he created a memory patch. You could revert your SYSTEM.* files, and try the patch. Your runtime error could be the audio driver. Someone else was getting a similar error. If it is the audio driver, you could use USB audio.
