I have used Avast since I long ago and AVG before that and Comodo in-between. Two days ago (2025-01-08) on my XPuSP4 (Harkaz) I have noticed AvastSVC using 1/3 of 1 core of my CPU (~8%) and forcing csrss service use the other 2/3 of 1 core (~17%), so I tried disabling updates (didn't work), reinstalling - worked for 1 day, the next day again heating the CPU. Interesting is that it does not do this on all XP machines (thankfully). I have no solution - only today I've found out about Avast team's stopping testing for WinXP, so for now I've installed 18.8 version of AVG (I have offline installation for both). We shall see how it works tomorrow. Update: looks like it will happen on all XP machines rather sooner than laterish - I have just had to uninstall Avast from another PC - here since it's a dual core, 50% CPU usage for nothing (~12% avastsvc and ~38% csrss service). :-( Update from AVG tomorrow: same problem; so I uninstalled it and installed Panda Free. Lightweight and works.

My Browser Builds (Part 5)

Those are just phrases that mean little - any time is good time for the truth and problems can then easily be resolved. /digressing over :-) -

Whichever chip it is that has the Penryn core i.e. 45nm, has SSE4.1. -

I'm not familiar with the situation - are they deliberately denying access to the UXP? By the way - Happy new year to all! -

New Serpent build hasn't been done since 11-30. Be polite! In an unrelated matter I've experimented with the apz.content_response_timeout a bit - to make content displaying more graceful instead of quitting. I've increased it first to 1000, then to 2000 then to 3000 just to be sure and it works. P.S.: 60000 is better. P.P.S.: apz.content_response_timeout to 30000 (from 400) network.http.response.timeout also to 30000 (from 300) These 2 are just workarounds for the poorly made webpage, that doesn't load images properly. Not recommended for a well made page like techpowerup.com. It doesn't show images properly when these 2 are not on factory values (e.g.: Forum topic "What are you playing?"). -

I click on the address in Serpent 52.9 (latest) and it shows the picture normally and also zooms into it and back out. -
Root Certificates and Revoked Certificates for Windows XP
modnar replied to heinoganda's topic in Windows XP
I would like to know why I do not see any ads anymore (e.g. on videocardz.com and linuxliteos.com) after updating root certificates with v1.6 of this tool... was my problem, then (as I've written in Roytam1's browser topic): Mighty fine! I've searched around and found this fine site: Cert_updates for legacy Windows - imported root and intermediate certificates and everything works correctly, e.g. Tomshardware site. -

Odd thing is that sometimes ads were shown (before the latest cert update)... -

Is there any particular reason that I do not see ads on e.g. videocardz.com, linuxliteos.com and various other sites when updated certificates with @heinoganda's 1.6 cert updater in Serpent 52.9 (on WinXP with harkaz's uSP4)? -
I guess he died of boredom.

Do you honestly expect me to let my graphics card idle while the CPU has to perform graphics tasks? That's not a solution. But it is passed around as such on quite some forums... Ebay.de works well here, I believe apart from site un-optimizing/bloating, P4's 2 FPU pipelines aren't doing it any favors (P3 had 3, Athlons too). I had maybe the fastest P4, single core engineering sample, of Cedar Mill with HT (3.6GHz) in one of my machines and it was so sadly slow compared to normal processors. Intel debauchery, nothing more, too big to fail they said, now look at them - delisted from DOW, replaced by nVidia and rightfully so. -

What if we don't finy any suitable OS to upgrade to from XP? I certainly do not. It all went downhill with "modular Windows" (Vista and up) and still going, fiercely. Anyhow something seriously has to be done with Serpent/UXP browser bombarding D3D(9) library with graphics calls. See? Not off topic. Edit: layers.prefer-d3d9=True doesn't help (much)... -

Read for example here and here. That is to say startpage.com now apparently uses Bing too as well as all the others... -

Perhaps try startpage.com (a NL based privacy search page that searches with Google, while the Duck searches with Bing). -
I have an outrageous request - please port the Filter Manager (fltmgr.sys with fltlib.dll and fltmc.exe) from Windows 10 to Windows XP SP3 - the .5512 (SP3) version is functional but somewhat limited.

how fix SoundBlaster emulation?
modnar replied to Joaquim's topic in Windows XP Media Center Edition
If it is lagging even with VDMSound, just run your programs/games through DOSBox. It's newer - with more functions than VDMSound. I never experienced lag with DOSBox. -

You need no mobile version, just normal version with h264ify extension (in Serpent 52.9). And yeah their HD quality is not what it used to be - I believe they're just saying it's at 1080p when in reality they're doing some monkey business in the back. -

I use it with Serpent 52.9; download Firefox addon h264ify (v1.1) it installs and works well in Serpent and Youtube works much better/normally again. -

I tested further: hardware acceleration (via g. angle) does not cause the problem. Here's the app_compat report from my VM (if it possibly helps any)... c7bd_appcompat.txt P.S.: MailNews 2024-10-12 also crashes as soon as I click on email in my inbox that has pictures attached to it. -

Additional info: even on RT's blog Serpent 52.9 (x86) crashes when those little pictures/icons of followers are shown. Temporary fix: I just copied gkmedias.dll from previous Serpent 52.9 package (2024-10-05) and 2024-10-12 version works flawlessly. The older version of gkmedias.dll is 9.52MB, the newer is 9.40MB. Something important got left out apparently. -

Heh! This is a good one - latest Serpent 52.9 clean profile or previously used I get gkmedias.dll error when going to these sites (just started browsing today): sapphiretech.com, msfn.org (My Browser Builds (Part 5)) and probably all others. The best part is that I can write this reply while message about basilisk.exe encountering an error window is inactive but on top of browser's. Please fix it... -
Just use DOSBox for DOS games, it's much more reliable (audiolag is a know problem in NT cmd). In Win2000 times there was DOSBox ancestor named VDMSound...

I've just read this on TheRegister (about a firefixed flaw in Fireferret=). Does it mean anything for our UXP browsers? And by the way - why does imgur.com perform so badly in Serpent 52.9 (in recent releases) - videos/images just start to load very slowly - is it the RAM? It used to perform smoothly not so long ago. -

Interesting. Could this be malware or fragmentation problem? Long ago when I had Diskeeper 10 (not 2010) on and every option turned off (it was inactive) when I opened firefox and browsed around the Windows just crashed/restarted from heavy fragmentation. Then I finally installed DK2011 (in 2013) and never again any problems.
